Food Preservation Workshop

Ever wonder how to preserve and use all of that great locally-grown produce? University of Maine Cooperative Extension food preservation workshops will teach you the basics of canning and freezing, including how to use pressure canners and water bath canners to preserve pickles, jam, and vegetables. Workshops are taught by UMaine Extension staff and Master Food Preserver Volunteers. All participants will receive a packet of information and a jar of what we make.  

Financial assistance is available; please email the UMaine Extension staff at extension.foodnutritioncumberland@maine.edu for more information.

You must register at least one week prior to the class to ensure that enough materials are ordered – no exceptions.

First Harvest for Worm Composting For Class of 02/25/25

This session is for the alumni of previous workshops (not new students). It will be run as follows: The instructor will inspect worm bins, demonstrate and assist with harvesting, and answer any questions. The instructor will bring six harvest kits for alumni to use harvesting their own worm bins.   The alumni returning for their first harvest have priority but after they have harvested alumni from previous workshops can join in.

This class is for members of the 2/25/25 class.

Gentle Fitness for Health

This class offers seated strength and flexibility exercises to improve mobility and fall prevention. All exercises will support people with arthritis, osteoporosis and other health concerns if they are cleared by their primary care provider.

Personal Creativity

This course examines how one can become a more creative person. By stimulating creativity through various techniques (mind-mapping, DO-IT, SCAMPER, right and left brain thinking) participants learn to tap into their personal creativity and apply it to organizational challenges.
